Files the press accepts on the first try.

Business cards, letterheads, brochures, flyers, menus, signage. The design is the visible half; the other half is bleed, trim, ink limits, outlined type and a colour profile that matches your printer's press. We do both, and we do not hand over anything we have not pre-flighted.

How it’s done

The five stages, and what happens in each

  1. Print spec first — day 1

Before design: final size, stock weight, finish, number of colours, quantity and which printer. A card designed for 350 gsm matte and one for spot-UV soft-touch are not the same file. Getting this on day one prevents the most expensive kind of revision.

  2. Copy & hierarchy — day 2

We lock the final text before layout. Print has no edit button — every late copy change risks reflow, and reflow is how errors slip in. You approve the wording, then we design around it.

  3. Layout & concepts — days 3–6

Two directions, presented as realistic mockups on the actual stock and finish you chose, plus a flat proof at 100% so you can read the real type size rather than a scaled-down preview.

  4. Pre-flight — days 7–8

The unglamorous stage: 3 mm bleed on every edge, safe margin on all text, images at 300 dpi, type outlined or fonts embedded, CMYK conversion with your printer's profile, total ink coverage checked, hairlines thickened, overprint set correctly on black.

  5. Handover & proof check — day 9

Press-ready PDF/X plus source files. Send us the printer's digital proof and we will check it against the approved artwork before you sign off — free, and it has caught mistakes more than once.

Questions

Before you brief us

We design and supply press-ready files. We do not run a press, which means we have no reason to push you toward one printer. We are happy to recommend printers we trust, or work to your printer's spec.
Bleed is 3 mm of extra artwork past the trim line, so a slight cutting inaccuracy does not leave a white sliver. You do not need to worry about it — that is our job. It is the single most common reason DIY files get rejected.
Usually. Send it over and we will quote a fixed pre-flight fee, typically $30–$60 per item. If the file is unrecoverable (flattened JPG at 72 dpi, for example) we will tell you straight away rather than charging to fail.
Screens are RGB and lit from behind; print is CMYK ink on paper. Bright greens, oranges and blues shift most. We convert with your printer's profile and will warn you when a brand colour is going to be hard to hit — if it matters, use a Pantone spot.
Four working days as standard. Rush in 48 hours is possible most weeks with a 30–50% surcharge — say so in the quote form.
